…I’d have been fired long ago.
I took a bit of an inventory this past weekend, counting up the games I’ve got for my main systems. Then I went through all of them and made a note of which ones I’d finished, those yet to beat and the ones I hadn’t even played yet.
The results are less than impressive.
For disc-based systems (Gamecube, Xbox, PS2 and Dreamcast) I counted all games, bought or downloaded. For the DS (since it uses cartridges and ROMs are easy to get in bulk), I counted only the games I’d purchased.
Here’s the tally:
Gamecube – 34 games: 1 finished, 24 unfinished and 9 unplayed
PS2 – 24 games – 17 unfinished, 7 unplayed
Xbox – 46 games: 3 finished, 36 unfinished, 7 unplayed
Xbox 360 – 2 games: 1 finished, 1 unfinished (plus 2 I’d borrowed from a friend and completed)
Dreamcast – 13 games: 3 finished, 10 unfinished
Nintendo DS – 4 games: 1 finished, 3 unfinished (plus maybe 3 more I bought, then traded in – still unfinished)23 games I haven’t even played yet?
What the hell?!?
91 unfinished games?
Why do I have so many games?!?
Addiction, anyone? ^.^
I suppose that’s as good an answer as any. I’m a bit of an impulsive shopper, especially when it comes to used or discounted games. And I’m definitely a compulsive downloader. Anything that looks even halfway interesting gets a download. But it’s not all my fault.
Japan is to blame as well.
And not just for the quirky, “can’t get ’em anywhere else” games you can only find here, though I have bought a fair number of those. The biggest impact being in Japan has on my gaming habits is that there are no game rentals here.
You want to play it – you gotta buy it.
That’s led me to take a chance on some games I’d not have ordinarily bought. It’s also gotten me to download some games I’ve later gone out and purchased. Of course, there are games I’ve downloaded, tried and never played again. (This isn’t to condone piracy or even try to justify it. I’m just describing my habits, that’s all.) Really, though, if I spent more time with the games I do have, I probably wouldn’t download or buy so many others. Maybe the games I’m getting just aren’t capturing me the way games used to. Maybe I’m after something, new/better/different. I can’t say for sure.
But I’ll let you know if I find it! ^.^
