OOPS!!!

I guess there ARE some cops here who mind if you run a red light.

Yes, I got pulled over today. It was lame too. The last light I go straight through (there’s one more, but I make a right there) before getting to work, no less! I stopped, isn’t that enough?

Well, not for this guy it wasn’t. I heard the siren behind me and though, “gee, I’d better get over to the side in case he needs to pass.” Nope. He pulled in front of me and angled to the curb. Oh well. I played the “I don’t speak any Korean” card (valid, since in situations like this, my “3,000cc pitcher of draft beer, please” Korean isn’t going to cut it), but he happened to speak a little English. I showed him my Virginia driver’s license and Alien Registration Card and he looked at them, comparing the names. He told me not to use my VA license and said which licensing office I needed to go to to get a Korean one. (Yeah, I’ll get right on that.) I got off lucky, no ticket or even a written warning.

During the day at work today, I resolved to be more careful – and I don’t mean just looking around for cops before running reds. I stayed firm in my resolve until I left work tonight. When it’s 21 degrees (with a standing still wind-chill of 12 degrees), that’s not the time to dally on one’s way home. I split the lights down the middle (5 green, 5 red) with one right turn on red.

Actually, this is probably a good thing. It showed me I need to be more aware of my surroundings when riding and that I should stop running so many red lights….unless it’s really, really cold.

^.^

(edit: I forgot to mention something when I first wrote this. The cop who pulled me over never even mentioned the fact that I’d run a red light. Odd.)
