You work where?

Gee, I never would’ve guessed..

Don’t get me wrong, it’s important to promote your business, but there is such a thing as going to far.

Case in point:

Wait, don’t tell me! Outback Steakhouse, right?

(Just in case there was any doubt.)I mean, seriously, do you really need to cover every square inch of the friggin’ car? Isn’t there some “information threshold” at which point people will just know what the business is? I’d imagine a few Outback logos, and maybe the boomerang, would be enough, but clearly there’s somebody who wasn’t happy with the impact that would’ve had.

“Sure, the logo has to be there, and the boomerang’s a nice touch, but…”

“But what, Bob?”

“What if we covered the entire fucking car with pseudo-aboriginal designs!!!”

“….”

“Well? What do you think, Steve?”

“You mean, make it look just like the traditional Hyundais of the Outback, like the aboriginies drove while out on a hunt?”

“YES, YES!!!”

“….sure. Sounds like a winner to me. You go convince the boss to pay for it.”

As we can see, Bob got his way. And it’s working – to an extent. It’s all about brand recognition. Hell, it got me to take some pictures and write about it, right? Of course, in terms of building business, it’s much less effective. I don’t know if they’ve even got an Outback in Ansan. Not that it’d matter if they did. That place is way too expensive (in Korea) for me to even consider eating there.
