Your mission, should you choose to accept it

is to spend 87% of your vacation budget within 2 hours of arrival.

Sound impossible? Not by a long shot!Especially when your first stop in the city is:

Yes, that’s the Apple Store, in Ginza. (Better pictures are available on Apple’s site, but I felt obligated to take some of my own.)

The reason for my visit? The iBook G4. Now, I already have an iBook, a trusty, older G3 model, which still works great. It’s served me well for the past two years, but it’s not quite the workhorse it used to be. The new model is faster, sleeker and has more powerful guts. The store is just as sleek on the inside as it is on the outside. Plenty of helpful people who are more than happy to take your money from you, too. I ordered up my new machine and was told to come back in an hour to pick it up. (I got more RAM and an English keyboard installed.) True to their word it was ready in an hour and I was on my way to geek heaven.

And that’s not such a misnomer for the store. In fact, if you’re headed there at night, just follow the bright, white light….

In case you’re wondering why I bought my new Mac in Japan instead of Korea, it’s because Apple Korea is an almost nonexistent entity. They have a couple stores run by third parties here, but nothing near any of the official Apple Stores. Plus, I wanted an English keyboard and Apple Japan had a good deal on memory.

Besides, it was just one more excuse for me to justify the vacation.
