The temple of underwear!

And other things I found while killing time on Saturday morning.

Saturday morning came much too early, and unfortunately I had to get an early start. Not for my schedule (it was a vacation for me, after all), but for the friend I’d stayed with Friday night. Too early for breakfast and not quite time for lunch, we agreed to hook back up in a bit to grab something to eat, after business had been concluded.

With an hour or so to spend I wandered about the neighborhood near the restaurant where we were going to meet. Here’s a few of the things I came across:

The Water Temple. I think these people had just finished some ceremony for their baby. There were a ton of people coming out of the temple while I was trying to take a picture, and this was the least crowded view I got.

The sacred underwear merchant. I’m not sure what the deal with this was.

The fierce statue, keeping the underwear safe.

Double-decker bicycle parking. Cool!

A random apartment building I thought looked neat.

The cleanest alley I’ve ever seen in my life. (Or the smallest street.)

A cool statue.

Finding that stuff (and a Starbucks) used up all the time I had before lunch, so I headed back to Jonathan’s (think Denny’s, but in Japan and with less western food) for lunch. The food was okay, but due to schedules (curse them!) it wasn’t a long affaiir. We hopped back on the train – friend to take care of friend things and me to go back to Yokohama to help prepare for the big FG party.

More on that later.
