“Hello handsome boy!”

Who? Me?

This entry may sound a little vain, but that’s not the intent of it, I swear. It’s just something weird that happened last night that I wanted to blog. It was another of those unexpected random compliment things. When I was leaving work there were a bunch of students milling about. (It had snowed during the evening, so a batch of them were outside goofing off and waiting for their rides home). Nothing unusual about that, really. As I passed a batch of them I heard a girl say, “oh, handsome boy.” I thought nothing of it, since there were a bunch of kids around and I had no idea who the comment was directed at.

I walked over to my motorcycle and started brushing the snow off. There wasn’t a lot of it, but enough so that I wouldn’t want to sit on it for the ride home.

As I was doing that, these three girls walked by and one of them said, “hello, handsome boy.” I’m sure I blushed (but since it was dark it’s likely they didn’t notice) and I stammered out a “hello” in return. They giggled and went on their way.

Now, was I being screwed with? Was this genuine? Am I reading too much into a simple comment?

Answers: Possibly. Again, possibly. No.

I’m not looking for validation on what she said or anything – far from it. I don’t care too much one way or the other what some random person thinks of my appearance. I think it was just another example of Korean bluntness. Okay, so I didn’t mind it. I just thought it was an odd little moment and that I’d share it.

That’s all, really.
