“I need you for my homework.”

Huh?

Another random moment from work. Last night I’m getting ready to start a class (we were still on the five-minute break between classes though) when these 5 girls come tumbling into my classroom, one of them holding a camera. They weren’t in my class and I still have no idea who they are/were. Only one of them was willing to speak English to me, and she did the talking for the bunch.

Her: Take picture?

Me: What? You want me to take your picture?

Her: No. We take your picture!

Me: Why?

Her: I need you for my homework.

Me: What homework?

Her: Vacation homework!

(Okay, I was messing with her a little, but when students start asking for my photo, I like to know what they need it for. I can only imagine what they’d do to me in PhotoShop.)

Me: You need my picture for your vacation homework?

Her: Yes! We need foreigner picture for homework!

Me: Oh. You need a picture of a waygook for your vacation homework?

Her: Yes, yes! (at this point the whole group is nodding in agreement)

Me: Okay.

So she gets set to take the picture and the rest of the group crowds around me. I thought they just needed my picture, but apparently the assignment was to be in a photo with a foreigner. Weird.

The flash didn’t go off, but the classrooms are well-lit enough that it probably came out okay. If not, I’m sure I’ll have a repeat performance sometime this week. I’ll have to find out who they were and ask for a copy of the picture.

Heck, between them and the “hello, handsome boy” girls, this has been a good week for my ego. ^.^

Now if only this attention were coming from somebody closer to my own age…. Oh well.
