I may have an answer to that ghost thing.

It’s the only one I’ve gotten and it sounds reasonable to me.

I asked one of my 7th grade conversation classes about the “Asian ghost” thing on Friday. Got a pretty good answer too.

One of them told me that people in Asia place a lot of importance on first impressions, and one of the key parts of any first impression is how a person looks. If they can’t see the person’s face (hair-face ghost) or – even worse – if the person has no face at all (egg-face ghost), it’s considered very disconcerting.

I can buy that, but it’s not really the answer I was hoping for. I thought there’d be some really bizarre cultural reason for it, or maybe some old-time ghost stories about face-stealing or some such thing. And really, there should be. I mean, first impressions? What the hell’s so scary about bad (or creepy) first impressions? I’m going to do a bit more research on this. By which I mean, “rent more horror movies.” If I find anything more on the “Asian ghost” situation, I’ll report it.

And if I find any cool movies, I’ll report on those too.
