Three tables & lots of parking

No waiting!

A look at the fast-food landscape of Korea doesn’t look very Korean. There are Burger Kings, McDonald’s, Popeye’s and KFCs all over the place. The biggest Korean chain is Lotteria, which is pretty much your standard burgers and fries fare. The only other “real” korean chain is Toreore. They’re not that different from Lotteria, except that they do chicken and burgers and fries. They’re lesser known and not nearly as widespread as Lotteria. I’ve only ever seen 3 of them, in fact. A new one opened near my neighborhood recently, complete with delivery service. I never see anybody in there eating, but the scooter’s always flashing about, so I guess they’re doing a fair bit of business.

Most delivery places here use scooters or mopeds. No sense in getting stuck in traffic when you’ve got food getting cold. But where to park them at the end of the day? Most places just chain them up out front, if they’ve got enough sidewalk space, or if they’re in a high traffic area. But not Toreore. They use a slightly different plan:

Now, I guess it makes sense, and is secure and all – but still. Knowing how dirty my bike gets from cruising around town, I don’t think I’d park it in my dining room. (If I had a dining room, I mean.)

Too bad, really. I like their food, but can’t say that I’d be too comfortable dining in somebody’s parking lot.
