Fashions for the casual geek

(Well, not that there’s any other kind of geek…)

I’ve been buying clothes recently. Some of my older stuff (bought either last summer or over 2 years ago) is starting to wear out. Usually I have a problem buying clothes in Korea. They’re either not my size, too cheaply made, or just too damned fugly.

Fortunately, I live just a few blocks away from a ton of outlet stores. Some of them suck, and some are overpriced – but there are a few good ones in the mix. The best one is probably the Columbia sportswear shop. They had great summer-weight cargo pants on sale for about $12. Kind of hard to pass up a deal like that. The Nike store has some cool stuff now and then, but never any ninja shoes. There’s a Levi’s store as well, but the prices are a joke. Would you pay $100 for a pair of 501s? I sure as hell wouldn’t.There are also a few department stores in the area, but the selection’s usually not so hot. Lots of stuff with dumb, ridiculously-oversized logos and questionable quality. They do have decent stuff now and then.

Like today.

I was only looking for plain white t-shirts, but I cut through the regular clothing section just to see if they had anything wearable. Imagine my surprise when they did! Decent looking (to my warped mind, anyways) short-sleeved casual shirts. Perfect for wearing to work or any other non-dressy occasions. (By which I mean “any occasion I’ll ever attend while in Korea.”) Good price too, only about $14. And they’re made just for geeks! Here’s one of ’em:

Okay, so it’s just a shirt. So what makes it “just for geeks?”Let’s take a closer look at the tag:

(The “105” is the size.)

Is that too funny or what? (I expect many, if not all, of you are going with “or what.”) I’ve seen strange brand names in Korea, but that’s just too much.

BLOG?”

Can it make one a better blogger? I mean, there are clothes made specifically for certain activities – hiking, cycling, running – and certain occasions – proms, weddings – that are said to enhance the experience. So why not blogging?

Well, I’m testing this theory right now, by wearing the shirt in the picture. So what do you think? Has this entry been enhanced by the BLOG shirt, or is there no effect? Perhaps blogging about the shirt starts up some recursive cycle or something, which may negate the effectiveness. I’ll have to wear the other one (come on, you didn’t think I’d get just one of these, did you?) and blog about non-shirt things another day. Who knows?

I could really be on to something here!

Or I could just be full of crap.
