is because it really does look like anime.
Okay, not all of it, but if you go to the right places, it really, really does.
Like Odaiba, for instance.
Take a walk around there and you’ll swear it’s not the real world. In a sense, I suppose it’s not. It’s all man-made land(fill) in Tokyo Bay. And rather than try and make it look like a real island, its coastline is all straight lines and geometric angles.
And the buildings? Well, see for yourself:

And for some reason, a gigantic ferris wheel. (I don’t know…)If you like, you can take the train or monorail, or drive your car out to Odaiba, but if you want the true anime experience, there’s only one way to go:
This is one of the water taxis that runs from the mainland to Odaiba. I haven’t gone on it yet, but it’s on my “to do” list. I’m curious to see if the interior is as funky and “space age” as the outside is.
There are other anime-esque buildings around Tokyo (like the evil apartments I posted about a couple days back), and as I discover them I’ll be sure to take (and share) pics of them as well. There are a lot of them, so you’ll probably be seeing more than a few entries along this theme. You know, I really have to wonder if there’s a point where the city will reach critical mass and just turn into one gigantic, real-life cartoon.
