Whole lotta shakin’ goin’ on!

What the hell, is this “earthquake season” or something?

If you’ve seen (or read) any news this weekend, you may have heard that Japan had a few earthquakes.

Counting the aftershocks, over 240.

They kicked off last night at 5:56 with a 6.8 (Richter scale) one about 200km from Tokyo. Then the hits just kept on coming:

19:46 – 5.9

20:34 – 3.9
20:55 – 4.4
21:35 – 3.7
21:44 – 4.9
22:35 – 4.5
22:42 – 3.2
22:58 – 4.3
23:34 – 5.3

Sunday’s Fun

08:02 – 4.1
10:06 – 4.2
10:29 – 4.2
13:54 – 3.9
14:21 – 4.9

Those were just the big ones. I subscribe to a service that sends me quake info whenever there’s anything big within 300km of Tokyo. As you can see, I got a shitload of email last night. I didn’t feel all of those, but the first few were some serious shakers. The first one got my building swaying rather nicely, so it was a bit odd to find out that it was from so far away. Not that I’m complaining. We haven’t had a big one in Tokyo since I’ve gotten here, and I’m fine with that. I’m sure it’ll happen sooner or later, but the small local (or big distant) ones are quite enough for me. A little shaking and rattling is fine, but I don’t want the roof coming down on my head.
