“Stay the course, America!”

Right off the fucking cliff…

Today was a holiday here in Japan, and I spent a
good portion of it on both CNN and C-SPAN’s websites, constantly reloading their
election maps.

Not an uplifting
way to spend a day.

I almost
cringed each time another state went red, but I kept my eye on the electoral
vote counts, never distressing too much as the numbers for Bush and Kerry never
got too far apart. That was okay, until it started getting down to the last few
states.

I was chatting with a friend
in Korea (another American expat), and we bitched and swore back and forth for a
few hours, wondering what the hell was wrong with the people in our country.
Seriously, after the last four years, how can more than 56,000,000 people think
Bush has done a good enough job to warrant
re-election?

I just don’t get
it.

And now, things have
stalled.

It looks like Kerry will win
Minnesota, leaving Ohio sitting in the same place Florida sat four years ago.
Here we go again – challenges, legal battles, recounts. It all seems so
unnecessary.

I mean, couldn’t you
people have just…oh, I don’t
know…

NOT
VOTED FOR THE MAN WHO LIED ABOUT THE REASONS FOR LEADING OUR COUNTRY INTO A WAR
IT’LL TAKE US FOREVER AND A FUCKING DECADE TO GET OUT
OF?!?

Is that really too
much to ask?

Probably
so.
The
next day or so will tell if you’ve truly screwed us for the next four years or
not. I’m hoping you haven’t. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need a
drink.

Several of them, I
think.
