Do you wanna touch?

YEAH!!!

Well, I wanted to. I really, really did. But the lines were too long, and I had other stuff to do. What am I talking about?

Nintendo World!

(Sorry about the blurry pic.)Yesterday was a two-for-one event at Tokyo Big Sight. Design Festa is going on this weekend, and Nintendo, in a very savvy move, put on Nintendo World – Touch! DS at the same time. Design Festa costs ¥1000 to get into, but the Nintendo gig was free. (As it should be, since it’s basically a hype factory and marketing show.)

The star of of the gig was the new Nintendo DS:

It comes out in the US in a week, and hits the stores in Japan on December 2nd. I really, really want one.

Badly.

They had about a hundred systems on display, showing off all the launch titles for the system. The only problem was there was a minimum 30-minute wait for each one. I had to get over to Design Festa, so I passed on the chance to play the system early. I already know I’m going to buy one, and which games I’ll be picking up at launch, so while it would’ve been cool to try it out, it’s no biggie that I didn’t. So I snapped some pics before heading out.

The Japanese retail package:

Game packages and game cards:

Showcase screens of Pokémon Dash:

I didn’t get to play, but I got some free stuff. Everybody who went into the show got a spiffy DS tote bag:

And a 64-page book showing off all the big titles coming out soon for the DS, Gamecube and Gameboy Advance:

They also had demo systems for the Cube and GBA titles, but I wasn’t interested in those. Okay, it would’ve been cool to try out Resident Evil 4, but I didn’t even want to see how long the line to try that one was.So for me it was more of a Look! DS day than a Touch! one, but it was still cool. I was tempted to head back down there today, but there’s this cold I’m trying to get over and napping to be done. Yeah, lame excuses from a dedicated N-fan, but hey – there are only 18 days until I get one of my own to play what I want, when I want.

And no lines to wait in.

Of course, anytime I find myself in a line after getting my DS, waiting won’t be nearly so dull.
