The Japanese Nazi fetish.

Can somebody please explain this one?

I know there are a lot of things in Japan that don’t make a lot of sense to those of us who aren’t Japanese, but with most of it you can just say, “yeah, that’s just how things are there.” Some of it, though, is just beyond reasoning.

Like the Nazi thing.

It’s not a skinhead, white power, Nazi thing. It’s more like a “hey, Nazis, that’s cool.”

No, dude. It isn’t.

When I was here in May, I saw a dude at a flea market decked out in full-on Nazi regalia. “Fucking weird,” I thought at the time. I don’t know if it’s some odd subset of cosplay or what, but it’s just, well, fucking weird.

Then, at Design Festa, I saw this:

I’m willing to let the Lego Concentration Camps go as “artistic parody” or whathaveyou, but this….. I dunno. Sure, everything’s cuter in Japan, but a kawaii Lego Hitler?

Again, maybe I’m missing something here, so I’m more than willing to listen to explanations, reasons or speculations.

Anybody got any?
