Never go game shopping after a bad date.

Not unless you’ve got scads of willpower.

To be fair, as far as dates go, it wasn’t really “bad.” Good dinner, good chat, a drink afterwards – pretty standard stuff. Perhaps “unsuccessful” would be a better word. Maybe I’m being unfair and was expecting a bit more than I got last night.

But when a woman tells you she’s masturbated while thinking about you, I don’t think hoping for more than just a chaste kiss is aiming too high.Oh well. Life goes on. Maybe I’ll hear back from her – maybe I won’t. I’m not going to dwell on it. Instead, I partook in a little “retail therapy.”

And all is well. ^.^

I went out in search of more DS stuff and to try and hunt down some older game items for a friend in England. Nothing too exciting on the DS front (though I did pick up Mr. Driller: Drill Spirits), but it was cool to see they were still in stock. I guess the initial DS madness here isn’t quite what it was in the US. Sure, this means I could’ve gone to Ikebukuro to get mine on launch day and saved a few bucks, but it’s not a big deal. After some prowling in Akihabara, I cruised up to Ikebukuro to see what Bic Camera had available.

It was there that I almost got into trouble.

I was checking out the demo systems to see what was new and a PS2 game caught my eye. Now, I don’t even own a PS2 anymore, so I think you can see where this is going. They had Ratchet and Clank 3 going on one of the systems and it looked good.

Really good.

So I looked at the cost of the game. Then looked at the cost of the new slimline PSTwo system. Then looked in my wallet. Then I realized I had enough money to get a whole new system. Then I thought better of the idea. The other demo game that got my attention was Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat on the Gamecube. It’s a cool concept for a game. It’s standard run & jump action, but instead of using a controller, you play it with the bongo drums from the Donkey Konga muisc game series. Tap the right drum to run right, tap the left one to run left. Clap your hands for special actions. I know, I know, it sounds weird. (And maybe even kind of dumb.)

But it’s not.

The controls work perfectly. And fighting a boss by slamming the drums and watching a gorilla beat the living shit out of another character is incredibly satisfying. It comes out on December 16th, and I’ll be there to buy it, complete with the drum controller. I don’t think my neighbors are gonna dig this too much.

But at least it’ll give me a way to burn off that excess energy when dates don’t turn out as well as I’d hoped. ^.^
