I guess Sony didn’t get the memo:

Portable games aren’t supposed to look this good!

Well, they certainly haven’t looked this good on any system until now, so why would anybody expect anything different? I was initially unfazed by the PSP screenshots. Yeah, they looked good, but how much can you trust somebody’s press kit?

A lot, it would seem.

The graphic capabilities are somewhere between a Playstation and a Playstation 2 – and they’re much closer to the PS2 than the PS1. Ridge Racers (PSP game) looked nice in a lot of the preview shots I saw, but seeing it in motion makes you realize just how much power this system has. And I’m left asking the same question over and over –

How the hell did they fit powerful enough guts into something this small?

Look, the front of the unit is practically all screen. Really. A portable TV with a screen this size wouldn’t even be this small, so how can a game system be this small? Aren’t systems more complex than TVs? This thing’s not even an inch thick at its fattest points, and it’s only about 6 3/4″ wide by 2 7/8″ tall. It’s too small to be what it really is.

It just shouldn’t be able to be this small.

I think Sony used some extra-dimensional manufacturing process or something. There’s no other explanation. Yeah, I’ve seen the photos at LIk-sang.com where they disassemble a PSP and show how everything’s crammed in there, but I still think some sort of sorcery or alien technology has been used.

Perhaps a shrink ray of some sort?

I realize this all sounds like fanboy drooling, but it’s not like I’m going on saying, “Sø|\|¥ !$ teh Gød øf g@|\/|3$” or anything like that. I’m just a totally geeked-out gadget freak, and I’ve not been this impressed with a piece of tech in a along time. I’ll sum up just how amazed I am with one simple statement.

The PSP is so nice, it could’ve been designed by Apple.

Think about that for a while….
