Just sittin’ at home…

…spankin’ my monkey.

Truth be told, it’s the monkey that’s doing the spankin’.

I’m just bangin’!

Hmmm, perhaps I should explain that.Since I got two of my PSPs at Bic Camera, I got a lot of points on my card. Just over 6,000. Now, since 1 point equals 1 yen, that means I got over ¥6,000 to spend – just for buying stuff I was going to buy anyways.

How can you not love a store that gives you free money, just for shopping?

Thursday’s tend to be big days for new games and game-related stuff in Japan, so I went to Bic today to check out new releases. (I had a pretty good idea what I wanted to get, but thought I’d look around just the same.) What was I after? you ask.

This:

What the hell is that? you ask. Isn’t it obvious?!? It’s Donkey Kong Jungle Beat!

Okay, so what the hell is Donkey Kong Jungle Beat?

I’m glad you asked! It’s a new Gamecube game that’s unlike pretty much every run and jump platform game you may have played before. The thing that makes it different is that you don’t use a regular controller to move DK around.

You use those bongo drums.

Yup, hit the drums and make the monkey run. And jump. And fight. And climb. And eat bananas.

I know, I know – it sounds silly (and I’m sure I look really dorky playing it), but it’s a lot of fun. You tap the right drum to move right, and tap the left one to move left. Hit both drums at the same time to jump and clap your hands (there’s a microphone in between the two drums to detect claps) to make him beat his chest or do a big clap that sends out shockwaves. It seems pretty simple at first. There are only four actions you can perform, so how hard could it be?

It’s not that it’s hard, it’s that it’s tiring.

This has to be the first non-DDR game that feels like exercise. All that pounding and clapping takes it’s toll after a while. I played for an hour or so last night and my arms were definitely feeling it. But hey, at least when you spank this monkey both arms get a workout.
