A Kit-Kat for every season

and every palate.

I don’t know if this is a Japan-only phenomenon or not, but this is the only place I’ve ever seen so much variety in a candy I’d previously considered to only have one form.

If you’ll recall (or if you don’t), last summer I was introduced to the Lemon-Cheesecake Kit-Kat while in Tokyo.

And it was good.

Not just good, it was the best candy ever. Really.Sadly, their time has passed and new flavors are popping up all over. None of them have yet to equal the flavorful majesty of the LCKK, but they’re trying.

Maybe too hard.

I found these in a ¥100 shop last week:

Strawberry Kit-Kats

Okay, these kind of make sense. Mini-sized Kit-Kats with strawberry creme in between the cookie bits. Chocolate and strawberry are flavors that have been known to go well together for a long time. Nothing wrong here. These are quite yummy. These next ones I discovered shortly before my trip to Korea in November:

Green Tea Kit-Kats

I must confess, I didn’t try these. I gave some to B. and I. (the friends I was staying with), and they seemed to like them okay. Call me a pussy for not trying them if you want, but they seemed too much of a desecration of the holy Kit-Kat to me. They’re still available here, and maybe I’ll try them, but I’m not rushing out to do so.And then there are these, discovered just today:

Melon Kit-Kats

These must be the new flavor for the new year. I hadn’t seen them before today and there was a big table full of them right by the registers at 7-Eleven. I’m going to try these, probably after dinner tonight. I like cantaloupe well enough, so I figure these are worth a shot. I don’t know about combining melons and chocolate though, that seems a bit odd.Of course, you can also get the original, regular chocolate Kit-Kats here, and those stay on sale year-round. There are also white chocolate ones out now, but I’ve eaten all the ones I had and don’t have a picture to show them off. (Sorry.) Just think of a regular Kit-Kat, but with white chocolate instead of the traditional milk chocolate.I’m curious as to what new flavors the changing seasons will bring. I’m sure they’ll be surprising, and hopefully delicious.

I’ll be sure to report back on each and every one of them. ^.^
