The other problem with spam.

Believe it or not, it can do worse things than fill your mailbox with crap.

It seems that somebody in my area is a spammer. How do I know this? Have I been getting targeted spam telling me where to get herbal viagra that’ll enlarge my penis and get wet, steamy teens to want to lose their virginity on camera close to my home?

No.

It’s worse than that. Junk mail I can delete and that’ll be the end of it. What I’m stuck with is something I can’t just delete and be done with.

I can’t send any email.

It seems that some fucktard has been sending spam from within the same block of IP addresses that covers my area. A lot of spam. How do I know it’s a lot?

Because all the IPs in my block are blacklisted from sending SMTP mail.

Sure, I can receive mail from my domain address just fine, but I’ve got to use hotmail, gmail or yahoo mail to actually respond to anybody who’s written to me. And that’s a real pain in the ass. There’s no simple clicking of “reply” in OSX Mail. Well, I could do that. And I could compose a lovely response to whomever had sent me an email.

BUT I COULDN’T FUCKING SEND IT!!!

This has been going on for over a week now, and it’s at the point where I’m going to change ISPs to fix the problem. My current ISP, so-net (run by Sony), hasn’t done anything to fix the problem – and they’re the only ones that can. Whenever I try to send mail I get an error message saying the IP is blacklisted and the address of the blacklisting organization. When I go to their site, I’m informed that the only way to get off the blacklist is for the owner of the block of IPs (so-net) to submit a request.

Which they don’t seem interested in doing.

Assholes.I know I can’t be the only person having this problem. I’ve reset my modem and gotten a new IP address many times since this problem arose and I get the same blacklist message every time. If so-net’s not interested in fixing this, then they’re not interested in getting my money. I’ll be faxing off my application to YahooBB shortly. With them I’ll get a 50Mbps connection, IP phone service (only ¥2.5/min to the US!), and English tech support.

Heck, I may even get those wet, steamy teens! ^.^
