Geeks love techno.

And more than that, they love techno remixes of game music.

Unfortunately most of those suck, Hard.

But once in a long, long while, somebody manages to get one right. You know it when you hear one like that. You can pick up the original melody right away, yet still hear how it’s been tweaked and twisted, reshaped into something new – yet still familiar. When you hear one like that, it’s really cool. Kind of like a treat for your ears. Tracks like those are the true gems. The ones you’ll play over and over, both by yourself and for your friends. As great as they are, there’s still something better than somebody getting one right.

It’s somebody getting one perfect.

Honestly, I can only think of two like that, but only one can be taken seriously. (The non-serious, yet equally perfect one is Mario Twins, by Group X.) The other is a remix of the Metal Gear Solid theme done by a guy who puts out music under the name Tommie. You can find his remix “Son of Liberty” on this page of his blog.

It’s tough to describe just why I think it’s so damned great, so you’re better off just hearing it for yourself. Of course, if you’re not into games, techno, game music or remixes, it’s not going to do much for you. But if any of that stuff floats your boat, you’re in for quite a treat.

Enjoy.
