Maybe I should just quit right now…

I’ll never be able to top this.

First off, I know blogging is not a contest. Okay, maybe it is to some people, but not to me.

At least, I didn’t think it was.

Some of my friends have blogs, and most of them are better than mine. I’m cool with that. Steven is arguably famous because of his page. It seems that most everybody in Tokyo knows his site. I’ve mentioned to friends that Steven and I are friends and the universal response is, “Oh my god! You know him?!?”

I think this kind of response would surprise him, because I get the impression that his site is something he does for kicks. He’s a great writer and the ideas that come out of his head are really out there. He sees Tokyo in his own special way and has a knack for finding things that nobody knows about – even the gaijin lifers. Being what it is, his site gets a lot of attention. Mine’s not nearly as off-beat as his, so I don’t expect I’ll ever get the same sort of traffic he does. (Which is cool, as I don’t want to pay for that kind of bandwidth.) But something happened this week that totally set off my inner (and outer) geek, and made me quite jealous of the attention he gets.

He got linked to by William Gibson.

Yes, that William Gibson. (09 Feb. entry if it’s not on the main page.)

The guy who wrote Neuromancer.

Kill me now. I’ll never beat something like that.
