Vacation! All I ever wanted.

Okay, maybe not all I ever wanted.

But still, 9 days in a row with no work is pretty damned nice.

School in Japan is different from the US in that the school year begins in April. I’ve no idea why this is, whether it’s some calendar thing or traditional thing or what the deal is. (Korea had the same system.) It may be related to the “fiscal year,” but that’s just a guess on my part. Whatever the reason, it means that there’s a nice break at the end of March.

Now, what do I do with my time off?

I really have no idea. Originally I was going to go back to the US to hand out with friends and do some shopping. Then I thought about it and realized there wasn’t any real added value to going back to the US just to buy stuff. The internet’s kind of made trips like that unnecessary.

There’s a tentative plan to take an overnight trip out of Tokyo with a gf, but with her work schedule being rather packed this week I’m not sure if that’s going to happen or not.

I do have a bit of work to take care of, getting ready for the new school term, but that’s maybe a day at best.

Looking at my game collection there are more than a few games I need to work on. I started getting into Knights of the Old Republic II today, and it’s pretty nice. Not too different from the first one, but that’s okay, since the first one was so great. Also on deck are Mister Mosquito, Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath, Doom 3 on Xbox, Ape Escape 2…. And that’s not even getting into the portable stuff I’ve need to work on. That’s a lot of options without even leaving the house – which I am going to do. I’m not that much of a nerd-hermit that I’m going to spend a whole week off just geeking the time away.
