The long, slow march…

…of the Gorton’s Fishermen.

You get used to seeing odd stuff in Tokyo, but sometimes you see something that just makes you go,Huh?!?

Like this, for instance:

Last Sunday I was on my way to meet up with a friend at a park near Shinjuku. It took me a little longer to get there than I’d expected thanks to these guys. I don’t have any idea why they were all marching, or what their aprons were supposed to mean. But the only thing I could think of when I saw them was the Gorton’s Fisherman.

But I don’t think they were selling fish sticks.

They all had this logo on their aprons:

Anybody care to offer a translation?I know the group behind them (it seemed to me some mass gathering of marches, all rolled into one) was against some war, thanks to the “NO WAR” banner on the front of their contingent’s lead-in minivan. But the fishermen?

What were they marching for?
