Worst. Pain. Ever.

“Excruciating” doesn’t even begin to cover it.

Yesterday’s idea of seeing how the weekend went and maybe going to the doctor on Monday was quickly abandoned today. I don’t know what went on inside my back while I was sleeping last night, but it wasn’t good. I expected to be sore this morning, but “sore” doesn’t even begin to cover it.I thought things weren’t too bad while I was still in bed, but when I tried to get up I realized just how bad they were. Standing up was nearly impossible.

Walking was even worse.

I hobbled the few steps to the bathroom, and managed to stand steady enough to take care of business. Not as easy as it sounds, given that I could barely stand. I’d just finished up when my back spasmed. Hard.

So hard that I blacked out.

That’s not an exaggeration either. One minute I’m standing over the toilet, and the next I’m sitting on it (facing the wrong way) with my upper body half-curled into a fetal position.

And after I recovered from that I felt like I was going to be sick. (How does that work exactly? The pain gets so bad that things start to short-circuit inside?) Dry heaves are not something that goes well with lower-back pain – trust me on this.

Clearly, the trip to the doctor would not wait until Monday morning.

I laid in bed for a couple hours (thankfully that’s one thing that doesn’t hurt) until the clinic opened, then slowly made my way down there, Very slowly. You know how you sometimes see old men shuffling along with a hand pressed into the smalls of their backs? That’s how I had to walk this morning.

The doc checked me out and it seems that whatever’s wrong is only muscular, so it’s nothing horrific like a slipped disc. He gave me a batch of prescriptions that’ll hopefully fix me up. I’ve got three meds to take three times a day, plus some pain-killer suppositories (sounds oxymoronic, don’t it?) for when the pain’s too much. I don’t really get the theory there. Yes, I know they’ll get the drugs into my system quickly, but if I’m in so much pain that I need them, what are the chances I’ll be flexible enough to get something up my own ass? ^.^
