Your mom was right.

Good posture is important – especially after you’ve messed up your back.

“Sit up straight.””Don’t slouch.”I can’t recall how many times I heard those phrases (and others like them) from my mom, but I assure you it was quite a few. Like many kids, I didn’t listen, and just went with what was comfortable.

I think I should’ve listened to my mom.

I had to go back to the chiropractor today, since I’d managed to tweak my back over the weekend. Nowhere near as bad as the first time it went out, but still rather uncomfortable. How’d I mess it up this time?

Sitting in bed, playing videoogames.

Hardly the kind of activity you’d think could throw your back out, but I assure you, it can happen. I explained to my doctor how I’d been sitting and he got a very parental look on his face. This led to a list of things am I no longer supposed to do and things I should be doing.

1. No more sitting cross-legged.

2. No serious bending of my back.

3. No more sleeping on my stomach.

4. When sitting, feet go flat on the floor and my back stays straight.

Seems like a pretty simple list, right? On the surface is it. It’s all common-sense stuff, but I don’t know how easy it’ll be to do. #1 is going to be the killer, I think. That’s my normal posture for sitting in bed and gaming, and it’s going to be a hard habit to break. Sitting upright with my feet on the floor just doesn’t feel relaxed or natural. I’m going to have to try and make it work though.

I mean, it’s not like I’m going to give up gaming. ^.^
