I’m talking about porn.
While most of what I download is regular movies and TV shows, I’d be lying if I said I never snagged any porn. It’s not a big part of my downloads (Seriously, it’s not. So get that look off your face.), but the occasional bit finds its way onto my hard drive.In one that I got recently the guy with the camera (probably also the “director,” as the vid had a low-budget feel to it) was talking to the girl as she was undressing. Mostly a normal sounding conversation until the question comes out, “ever had sex with three guys at once?” And she’s all cool and comfortable with it. “Yeah, of course.”
Now, granted, she’s filming a porno and is about to do a 4-way with three dudes, but the way she said the answer just as casual as can be really got me. The I realized why it seemed odd.
Most people aren’t the comfortable – or honest – about sex.
And you know what? They should be.
I keep hearing that other countries are more open about sexual topics. And they probably are.
Certainly they can’t be any more closed-up about them than the US is.
Hell, right now we’ve got a country up in arms over mild sexual content in a videogame. A videogame where you can’t go 2 minutes without some form of profanity or violence. A game with headshots and spouting geysers of blood. A game that allows you to use any number of weapons to kill any number of people. A game that uses the word “nigger” (or perhaps they’re using “nigga”) more than Tarantino could have imagined possible.
That’s all cool with America – but sex isn’t.
Some days I can almost hate my country. But then I remember that we’re the same society that made porn the industry it is today. We made it possible for chicks to be casually honest (on film) about group sex.
So why can’t we be like that in our everyday lives?
Now, I’m not wishing to hear people at the next table in Starbucks loudly discussing the finer points of felching. But if that’s what they’re into, why should they feel ashamed of it? Why shouldn’t they talk about it? I think we could all learn something from this porn chick. But let’s wait ’til she’s finished.
