their kid would make music like this.
During a bit of blog reading today, I came across a bit about mashups on Gen Kanai’s page. I’d heard some mashups before, but I’d never heard that term used to describe them.
Wait, what’s a mashup?
It’s when two songs are combined to make one tune. Probably the most famous example of this is DJ Dangermouse’s “Grey Album,” where mixed up The Beatles’ “White Album” with Jay-Z’s “Black Album.” The result was pretty decent. Another good example would be The Kleptones’ “A Night at the Hip-Hopera,” which mashes together Queen songs and just about anything else you can imagine. (I didn’t care much for The Kleptones’ other albums, but I do like ANatHH.Gen linked to a page at 99x.com, the website of a great radio station in Atlanta. They play a new mashup every Wednesday night, and some of the ones on their page are damned funny.
Like the Benny Hill – 50 Cent one.
But as funny as that one is, this one with Public Enemy is even better.
While the stuff that DJ Dangermouse and The Kleptones do is pretty cool, I like the funny ones a lot better.
Mostly because I imagine Flavor Flav having an absolute meltdown if he heard the above Public Enemy track. ^.^
