You sneaky bastards….

It seems I don’t need a new host after all.

Just to make sure I needed a new webhost I did some checking on my site this week. I went digging through directories and seeing what was taking up so much space. I knew I had lots of photos and stuff, so I was pretty sure the lack of space was my own fault.

Turns out it wasn’t.

In a directory of the server I found a folder full of site statistics. Monthly reports on things like bandwidth, search terms, page hits and stuff like that. No biggie, I thought – until I looked at the disk usage for that folder.

168 megs!!!

Hmmm. Yes, biggie. I only get 250 megs of space on my server and nearly 70% of it was being taken up by a bunch of crap data that I’m never going to look at!

Well, it was being taken up by a bunch of crap data.

Now the lack of space is no longer a concern, which is a load off. Of course, now that I’ve got all this space there’s not much pressure to get a new host and get to tweaking and redesigning things. But I really should do that stuff. And the stuff I want to do could quite easily turn out to chew up a lot of server space, so perhaps I’ll get a new host after all. My account with the current one runs out in October, so I’ll probably switch then. But for now, with the worries of disk space gone, I can get to uploading vacation pics.

Yay! ^.^
