Rain, rain, go away…

You know, I really used to love storms.

And on some level, I still do.

But after last week, they don’t feel quite the same anymore.

Don’t get me wrong. Tokyo’s due for some rain. Both of the big typhoons we were supposed to get this summer turned out to be non-events, so I’m sure we can use the stuff that’s coming down right now. We only had a 30% chance of rain today, which makes the thunderstorm that’s been going on for the past few hours a bit of a surprise.

I’ve found the Tokyo forecast to be pretty weak when it comes to getting rainfall right, but the error usually goes the other way – they call for rain and we get nothing.

Kinda makes you wonder how much we’re going to get if they weren’t really calling for any…

Now, don’t get me wrong. I’m not trying to compare a late-summer thunderstorm to a devastating hurricane. Far from it. I’m just saying that I’ve got a newfound appreciation for the power of nature.

And a lot of respect for it.
