18 days later and $50 less

Good things come to those who must wait.

Well, the time has come and the cat’s out of the bag.

Microsoft has put out the release dates for the Xbox 360.

You lucky bastards in the US will get yours on 22 November while I have wait until 10 December. Of course you’ll be paying $50 more for the same thing (or even more if your state has sales tax).Still no word on what titles will launch with the system in each territory, of if the rumor of the 360 being region-free is true.

I really, really hope it is.

It would be so nice to get my system here and be able to pick and choose which games to buy locally and which ones to import. I doubt we’ll hear anything else about that until the launch dates draw nearer, but the idea is too nice to let go of it easily.

Tokyo Game Show is this weekend and I’ll be there on Saturday (and maybe Sunday as well). The only thing I’m keen to see is the MS booth. They’ve announced three titles that will be playable, but none of them are ones I’m jazzed about. I hope they make Project Gotham Racing 3 a surprise playable title. That’s the one game I’m aching to get my hands on.

When the original Xbox came out, a lot of people derided it as being “a $300 Halo/TV adapter.” That may have been partially true. And if the 360 turns out to be little more than a “$350 PGR3/TV adapter” I doubt I’ll mind too much.

Not if the game lives up to its promises and comes out looking like this:

Yes, that pic is a lot larger than what I normally post. But I thought it’d make sense to use a screenshot taken in the 360’s native 720p resolution.

Gaming in HD is gonna be so fucking sweet! ^.^
