My ISP is run by idiots.

It’s a good thing the speed is worth putting up with their stupidity.

Actually, I don’t have one ISP, like you’d expect.

I have two.

One provides the physical connection to the net, the other provides the service allowing me to utilize said connection. Why they do this, I have no idea. It’s not a well thought-out system.

At all.

I only had to send in one application, so I (foolishly, it would seem) assumed there’d be one company handling everything. The power company, Tepco, took care of the fiber-optic hookup right on schedule, just like they said the would. The service company, DTI, was a bit less timely.

By nearly a week.

They mailed out the paperwork with my ID and password the day before my line was going to be hooked up. Great, if they’d sent it via some speedy mail. They did not. My line was hooked up on the 12th as Tepco had promised. The paperwork arrived on the 16th.

Only it didn’t.

For some insanely moronic reason, I had to sign for the letter. They said this is because it contains “confidential information.”

This, I don’t get.

It’s an ID and password that can only be used FROM INSIDE MY APARTMENT. Even if somebody were to steal the letter, what good would it do them? Are they going to break in and hook up their own computer? Or better yet, configure my shit for me?

Whatever the reason, I had to wait until the 19th to get the letter, since that was the only time I’d be home. (Yes, i could’ve gotten it redelivered to work, but since it’d have to go from one post office to another, and then to work, I figured I’d just play it safe and get it sent to my place on Saturday.)

Thankfully, it arrived.

Once I had it, everything went okay and I got to work downloading three weeks’ worth of missed TV shows.

It didn’t take very long.

In less than 24 hours I’ve downloaded 8 one-hour shows, 3 half-hour ones, two movies and two Xbox games.

And I haven’t even gotten close to my maximum speed yet.

The fastest download (combined between all torrents) I’ve gotten was about 760KB/sec.

I’ve uploaded at over 900KB/sec. O.o

If you’re not familiar with the technical talk, that’s really fast.

Like, stupidly, phenomenally, awesomely fast.

Now, can you guess how frustrating the last week of having that connection and being unable to use it was?
