I am SUCH a frickin’ idiot.
So there I am, waiting at the Genius Bar at the Apple store in Ginza. I’ve got my original receipt, my warranty card and I’m all set to explain what I know is wrong with my Powerbook.
Even thought I’d gotten there 2 minutes after they opened, I still had to wait about half an hour. There were two people picking stuff up, and some woman who’d managed to schedule an appointment ahead of me. I didn’t mind waiting. I mean, I need to get this taken care of, and where else am I gonna go?
Finally it’s my turn and I explain what’s up to the Genius. “There’s no sound from the right speaker or right headphone,” I tell him. “But when I use AirTunes and my Airport Express, everything’s fine.”
“Well, let’s check your control panels,” he says.
Control panel?!? Does he think I’m fucking stupid or something? This is a hardware issue!
What’s that? A “balance slider?”

You have got to be shitting me. I’ve never even used the “sound” control panel, so why would the slider be all the way to the left? Why would I have checked that myself, since I know I’d never used it?

I have never felt so stupid in my life. I apologized to the guy for wasting his time, but he was cool about it. I mean, I’d rather feel stupid than not have my computer for a couple weeks, but damn! I didn’t need to feel that dumb!I still don’t get how the slider ever got set over the left. Must be some computer gremlins or something.
I mean, it couldn’t have been me, could it….?
