I don’t believe in coincidence.

And neither should you.

Put yourself in this situation.

Say there was somebody you used to see. You got on well with this person, had fun together, enjoyed hanging out and were quite sexually compatible. Then one day, pretty much out of the blue, she tells you (on MSN, no less) that she’s met somebody and fallen in love, so she can’t see you anymore.

But that you’re still good friends.

Only she won’t return any emails. And I’m not talking emails of the “hey, we should hook up like we used to” kind. I’m talking about the “hey, haven’t heard from you in a while, hope you’re doing well” variety. Pretty much she’s done with you. No biggie. Things weren’t that serious. Just a nice, casual hookup kind of relationship. No hard feelings on my end when she broke it off. I’d heard the line before and knew it for the stock Japanese girl line of “sorry, don’t wanna see you anymore, but I’m phrasing it like this to keep from hurting your feelings, or making myself look trampy.”

Then, after nearly 11 months of no contact, she emails you again.

The day before Valentine’s Day.

Seriously, what would you think?
