Sorry I haven’t been blogging much.

I’ve been tied up in court, you see.

Nonono, I’ve not gone and gotten my visa revoked or anything silly. Hell, I haven’t even set foot in a courtroom.

But I have been logging a lot of gametime on my DS. ^.^

Since getting my M3 working and loaded up with ROMs, my DS has practically been reborn. I now toss it in my backpack every time I go out, just in case a gaming opportunity presents itself. I’ve got about 20 or so games on it, but lately one has been all I’ve needed.

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney

Okay, a game where you play a rookie lawyer solving crimes and winning cases may not sound to exciting. There’s no shooting, running, jumping, magic mushrooms, BFGs or anything else you’d associate with a typical videogame.

And that’s what’s so awesome!

It’s almost a return to the point and click adventure games of old, the game done more through story and thinking than a series of quck button presses and joypad maneuvers. The game is very well written – and very long. It’s one of those titles that makes you wonder how it ever got localized for the US, as it’s not what tends to sell well over here. (As such, they didn’t make a lot of copies for the US market, so you may want to get it while you still can.)There are five cases you have to make your way through, and each one seems to get longer than the ones before it. Case 4 took a seriously long time (especially when only being played on commutes or before bed), and Case 5 is looking to be even longer than that. But that’s cool with me.

When has more of a good thing ever been bad?

I don’t want to get into the details of the game as it’s very story-driven and any details would tend to give away the plot twists. Suffice it to say that it’s very fun, very engaging and a very good time. And if you don’t think so (or don’t even want to give such a game a try), there’s only one thing I can say:

OBJECTION! ^.^

Oh, and if you have played it, you owe it to yourself to check out this video, originally shown at Tokyo Game Show last September. It was a promotional piece for the DS version of the game (it’s also had a few iterations on the Gameboy Advance) that they made just for TGS. It may not make much sense if you’ve not played, so log a bit of gametime, then go check it out.
