Let there be Lite!

The hottest ticket in town isn’t that hard to get.

Well, not if you’re willing to get up at 5 in the morning. ^.^

Today was the second launch of the Nintendo DS Lite, and the first day of sales for the Enamel Navy and Ice Blue colors. The initial launch was last week when the white version of the system came out. I was up bright and early (after having stayed up ’til 2:30 watching CSI downloads) to grab a morning train down to Akiba. What makes this whole trip a bit unusual is that I wasn’t shopping for me. A friend back in the US was seriously jonesing for a DS Lite, so I figured I’d see if I could hook him up.I tried to score a white one on the 2nd, but since I couldn’t start looking until after lunch, so that was a lost cause. Today’s plan of attack was much better, and I was able to get the color he was after with no real problems. (I’ve got a bit to say about how the shop handled the launch, but that’s a rant for another time.)

This time is about pics.

I took these shots without a lot of light in the room, so the colors are a bit off. I wanted to compare the screen brightnesses of the Gameboy Advance SP, DS and DS Lite.

First, total darkness:

Next, lights on:

The DS Lite was set to maximum brightness in both of those shots. It’s got 4 levels of brightness. Let’s take a look at all 4.

Level 1:

Level 2:

Level 3:

Level 4:

My camera can’t really capture the brightness well, but trust me – the Lite is freaking awesome.

Now all they need to do is get some white ones back in stock, or release a black model… ^.^
